20 Ways to Make Your Home Safer

  1. Install smoke detectors on every level of your home and in every bedroom.

  2. Install carbon monoxide detectors near all sleeping areas and gas appliances.

  3. Check the expiration dates of your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace them as needed.

  4. Keep a fire extinguisher in an easily accessible location.

  5. Create a fire escape plan and practice it with your family.

  6. Install childproof locks and gates on cabinets and doors to keep dangerous items out of reach.
